The Story Behind the Image

Captured during one of our explorations of Iceland's dramatic western coastline, Snæfellsjökull is an image born from an unexpected moment of light and a distant landscape that demanded attention.

We had travelled to the West of Iceland to photograph Svörtuloft Lighthouse, drawn to its striking position along the rugged coastline. While concentrating on the lighthouse and its surroundings, I noticed something extraordinary beginning to develop in the distance. Over Snæfellsjökull, the iconic glacier-capped volcano, the light was changing, revealing a beautiful interplay of colour, shadow and atmosphere.

It was the blues that caught my eye. As the light moved across the landscape, different tones emerged within the mountain's contours, revealing its form, shape and texture. Subtle variations in colour gave the glacier a remarkable sense of depth, while the changing light brought out the natural patterns and sculptural qualities of the terrain.

Although we had arrived with a different subject in mind, this distant spectacle offered an entirely different photographic opportunity. I was drawn to the simplicity of the scene and the way the cool blue tones seemed to define the landscape, creating an image that felt both powerful and quietly atmospheric.

Snæfellsjökull is a photograph about looking beyond the obvious, recognising the unexpected and responding to the landscape as it reveals itself. It captures a moment when light transformed a distant mountain into something extraordinary, allowing its colours, contours and textures to take centre stage.

A Print to Treasure

Each print is accompanied by an artist statement, offering insight into the inspiration and story behind the photograph, along with a signed Certificate of Authenticity confirming its place within this strictly limited edition of 25 prints.

I always retain the first print in the edition for my own collection. Your print will therefore be individually numbered between 2 and 25, hand-signed and clearly marked with its edition number, making it a distinctive piece within this exclusive collection.

Every print is carefully prepared for delivery. It is placed in an archival protective sleeve, wrapped in tissue paper and packaged in a rigid, non-bendable flat mailer to help ensure it arrives in excellent condition.

Produced with care and in strictly limited numbers, Snæfellsjökull offers collectors the opportunity to own a lasting piece of Iceland's remarkable landscape. Through its beautiful blue tones, distinctive forms and subtle textures, the print captures the quiet drama of a fleeting moment when light revealed a different side of this extraordinary volcanic landscape.
