Vatnajökull
Limited Edition Fine Art Giclée Print
Vatnajökull is a limited-edition fine art print, produced as part of an exclusive edition of just 25 prints. The first print in the edition is retained by the artist, with prints available to collectors numbered from 2 onwards.
Printed using the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-310 and its 10-colour LUCIA PRO pigment ink system, the print offers exceptional colour fidelity, tonal depth and longevity. Each print is produced on premium 310gsm Museum Heritage fine art paper by PermaJet, carefully selected to complement the detail, texture and atmosphere of the image.
The print is supplied in A3 format, with an approximate image size of 25 × 37.5 cm.
The Story Behind the Image
Vatnajökull, Iceland's largest glacier, was the setting for one of those fleeting moments that make landscape photography so compelling. I was travelling east towards Vestrahorn in our camper van when I noticed something extraordinary beginning to unfold over the glacier, reflected in the wing mirror.
The scene was almost biblical in its scale and atmosphere. The light was constantly changing as the clouds began to part, allowing shafts of sunlight to break through behind the rain. The interplay of light, cloud and weather transformed the glacier into something truly spectacular, with the landscape shifting from one moment to the next.
Realising how quickly the conditions were evolving, we pulled over. I grabbed my camera, filters and tripod, and quickly searched for a composition that would capture the drama unfolding before me. There was little time to spare. I found my frame, carefully composed the image and pressed the shutter just as the light reached its peak.
Almost as quickly as it had appeared, the light was gone.
What remains is a photograph of a moment that could never quite be recreated: a fleeting convergence of landscape, atmosphere, colour and light. The image captures not only the immense presence of Vatnajökull, but also the transient beauty of Iceland's ever-changing weather, where the most extraordinary scenes can reveal themselves for just a few seconds.
For me, Vatnajökull is as much about that brief encounter as it is about the landscape itself. It is a reminder of why I travel with a camera, ready to respond when the world presents something unexpected.
A Print to Treasure
Each print is accompanied by an artist statement, offering insight into the inspiration and story behind the photograph, along with a signed Certificate of Authenticity confirming its place within this strictly limited edition of 25 prints.
I always retain the first print in the edition for my own collection. Your print will therefore be individually numbered between 2 and 25, hand-signed and clearly marked with its edition number, making it a distinctive piece within this exclusive collection.
Every print is carefully prepared for delivery. It is placed in an archival protective sleeve, wrapped in tissue paper and packaged in a rigid, non-bendable flat mailer to help ensure it arrives in excellent condition.
Produced with care and in strictly limited numbers, Vatnajökull offers collectors the opportunity to own a lasting piece of Iceland's extraordinary glacial landscape, captured during a fleeting moment when light, weather and place came together in a truly remarkable way.
